Pre workout supplements

WHY DO YOU TAKE PRE WORKOUT?

Pre workout supplements can give you the boost you need while training, particularly if you feel tired during workouts or you’re unable to finish sets and reps. They are designed to help you burst through plateaus and achieve more in your workouts.

Taken before your weights or training session, pre workout supplementation can help you:

  • Improve performance
  • Increase strength
  • Increase endurance
  • Decrease muscle breakdown during training
  • Increase protein synthesis
  • Improve energy and focus
  • Improve nutrient delivery and assimilation
  • Increase metabolic rate (fat burning)
  • Create an optimal hormonal environment

COMMON INGREDIENTS FOUND IN PRE-WORKOUT

Caffeine: A stimulant, as well as a metabolic stimulant, which acts upon the central nervous system and increases metabolism by releasing fatty acids into the blood stream to be used as energy. Caffeine taken before training can work as an excellent fat burner and increases focus, creates faster and clearer thoughts and better body coordination in general.

Tyrosine: Tyrosine is an amino acid that boosts your mood, energy and mental focus by producing hormones and neurotransmitters which in turn helps you lift the intensity in your workouts.

Creatine: Increases the body’s ability to produce energy rapidly. Creatine is most effective in high-intensity training and explosive activities such as weight training, sprinting and football. Creatine pulls more water into the muscles for a greater pump and aids quicker recovery time.

Arginine: One of the most popular pre-workout ingredients as the body readily converts it to nitric oxide (NO) which increased oxygen delivery to the muscles.

Citrulline Malate: A combo of the amino acid citrulline and malic acid which increases energy levels by removing ammonia from the body, a process that delays fatigue and improves recovery.

Betaine: A modified amino acid that is effective in boosting muscle strength and power, and helping you increase the number of reps.

CHOOSING A PRE-WORKOUT SUPPLEMENT

Pre-workout supplements are not a sole source of nutrition and should be used in conjunction with an appropriate physical training or exercise programme. Choosing a pre-workout supplement should be based on your individual goals and you should always read the product label.
